Hyperactivity ( ADHD)

        



In the classroom of 7th standard the teacher was scolding Rohan. " Rohan sit at one place & first finish your activity. Concentrate on your work."  But Rohan was not listening to the teacher. He was roaming in the class &  disturbing other student's activity. He wanted to start up new activity before finishing previous one.                                                    What was the reason 
behind his behaviour ? Is Rohan ADHD child

Attention- Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is most common neurobehavioural disorders of the childhood. This is chronic condition that affects millions of children.& often continues into adulthood. ADHD can be difficult to diagnose & treat because its symptoms often resemble the behaviour of normal healthy, exuberant children. It includes very short attention span , difficulty in completing a task,even if the activity is one uour child enjoys, mood swings, difficulty sitting at one place constantly, aggression, low concentration, difficulty in following directions, unorganized behaviour etc. Most children will show thses symptoms at various times. The studies shows that people with ADHD are often creative, intuitive & highly intelligent. 


CAUSES OF ADHD :- 



Research shows that causes of ADHD are complicated. Genetics play an important role in ADHD cases. There are may be other causes also such as brain injury, some heavy medicine during pregnancy, exposure to environmental risk, premature delivery,
    mental health condition of the mother.                      ADHD is one of themost common & studied neurodevelopmental disorders in the children. Such children have difficulty with inattention, hyperactivity & impulsivity. Kids usually receive a diagnosis during childhood & the condition often lasts into adulthood.

 TYPES OF ADHD



HYPERACTIVE- IMPULSIVE TYPE:- 
This type of ADHD children feel the need for  constant movement. It shows symptoms of impulsivity & hyperactivity. 
People who experience Hyperactive- Impulsive type are :-
 1) Squirm, fidget or feel constantly restless.

2) Having difficulty in sitting at one place.

3) Nonstop talking.

4) Lost of patience.

5) Unable to complete their task.
              This type of children can be disruption in the classroom. Learning process is always difficult for such children. They may also have habitual of troubling other children in the classroom during learning hours.

INATTENTIVE TYPE:-
The children with this inattentive ADHD make careless mistakes because they have difficulty in sustaining attention, following instructions, organizing tasks & activites. Such children are easily get distracted as they are having very poor concentration. People who experience inattentive type are :-
1) Get bored quickly. 

2) Have trouble focusing on a single task.

3) Having difficulty in organizing thoughts& learning new information.

4) Very poor listening  skills.

5) Lose items needed to complete a task.
            More girls are diagnosed with this inattentive type. 

COMBINED TYPE:- 
If you have the combination type, it means that your symptoms don't exclusively fall within the hyperactive- impulsive behaviour or inattention. Instead a combination of symptoms from both of the categories are exhibited.This type is more common in boys than in girls.
An initial diagnosis may reveal one type of ADHD. But symptoms can change over time. After diagnosis of ADHD, there are a number of treatment options & therapies available. The primary goal of the treatment is to manage ADHD symptoms & to promote positive behaviours. 

HOW TO DEAL WITH ADHD CHILD



1) Plan the day so your child knows what to do or not in the today's routine.

2) Be positive . Always encourage the child's positive activity.

3) Don't label your child constantly. 

4) Give clear instructions to the child about his or het work. Ask the child to do work by giving specific instructions like," put the toys into the box. Put the books back on to the shelf."

5) Swimming exercise is always advisable for ADHD children to exhaust their extra energy.

6) Use goals & praise or other rewards. 
Use a chart to list goals & track positive behaviours, then let your child know that they have done well by telling them or by rewarding their efforts in other ways.

7) Create positive opportunities for your children. 

8) Engage your child in various type of activities. As they needs all time variation in their routine.

9) Provide a healthy lifestyle to the children which includes nutritious food, lot of physical activities & sufficient sleep.

ADHD IN ADULTS :-



ADHD lasts into adulthood for at least one- third of children. Symptoms of adult ADHD are :- 

1) Relationship concerns.

2) Lack of focus.

3) Restlessness & anxiety. 

4) Emotional concerns.

6) Hyper focus.

Treatment of adults include medication, psychotherapy, education of training or a combination of treatments. 

REMEMBER ADHD IS NOT A PERMANENT DISORDER. INTENSITY OF THIS DISORDER CAN BE SUPPRESSED BY APPROPRIATE DIET, SLEEP, EXERCISE HABITS, BEHAVIOUR THERAPIES, MEDITATION & SOME MEDICATION..
